Dr. Ryan Capouch is the founder of Lumen Vision in Fargo, a developmental optometry practice treating children, athletes, and brain injury patients. He holds the FOVDR fellowship in developmental optometry, a credential fewer than 1 % of optometrists nationwide have earned, and in 2023 he was named North Dakota's Young Optometrist of the Year.
His calling traces back to a September morning in middle school when he woke up with no vision in his right eye. Within two days he had lost vision in his left eye as well and was rendered legally blind. A week in the hospital and the care of four doctors brought him to a full recovery, and it was their attention that set the direction of his life. He spent his summers in college working as an optometric technician for the same local optometrist who first diagnosed him.
A native of Portland, North Dakota, Ryan graduated magna cum laude from the University of Mary with a degree in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Theology, and completed his doctorate at the Arizona College of Optometry. He serves the University of Mary on its Board of Trustees and mentors fourth-year optometry students through clinical externship programs at Lumen Vision.
